So last night me and the boothang were in the LES looking for some Mediterranean food and what should we spy but souvlaki GR. So in we went and it was like being teleported into to the photos of Santorini Greece. It was a a small space as are almost all NYC restaurants. They even had a patio that was draped in bougainvillaea. The menu was short and straightforward which is how it should be.We started with the tzatziki and pita, and it was made with the Greek yogurt and cucumbers thick and creamy. I ordered the chicken souvlaki and Mr. ordered the veggie pita. The chicken I think could have been cooked a bit more as I didn't feel it was cooked all the way. It was juicy and very flavorful and came with a side of warmed pita bread.Mr boothang said the veggie pita was great (but it looked mostly like pita lol). Of course what meal isn't complete with out dessert!Of course the offer loukamadies with honey and nuts, I died. I noticed that they even offered frappes with Bailey's (which if you have ever hung with a Greek this is a staple of all table fare). The service was friendly but slow as there was only three servers and no one followed up with us to see how we were doing other than the busboy.Overall 3.5 put of 5 forks just because of the service but def a most go.

Greeks in theater
So yesterday I went to the city to locate some jewelry displays (cause you know I sell jewelry) and after walking around midtown I decided to get a bit to eat before heading home. thanks to my Ness app I located this Greek restaurant called Dafni in the theater district. Well worth it as the food was as authentic as one can get with out travelling to Greece. The food was well made and the service was friendly. Overall 4 out of 5 forks.

Greeks in Bayridge?
So last night some friends and I headed over to Omonia cafe on 3rd and 77th st in bayridge for some eats. He had mentioned that they make a baklava cheesecake (say it isn't so!!) and I've been to location in Astoria and had good food so I agreed. The front of the cafe is all glass and very modern taverna. Upon walking in there were two ginormous display cases of desserts (where to start!) and we were promptly seated. We ended up changing tables as we sat close to the door and it was a bit brick outside last night. The seating along the walls reminded me of photos from Petra in Jordan, and the the trail through the desert walls that were shaped by time. To drink i got the frappe, which is a traditional Greek drink of Nescafe blended with Baileys liquor. I ordered the Cypriot panni, which was turkey, haloumie cheese, olive oil, and I think chicken. Sadly it was so dark I wasn't able to take good photos. It was pretty tasty albeit on the salty side from the cheese. For desert I ordered the Creme brulee, it was horrible. They served it cold so it had settled into a custard consistency and the caramelized sugar was like goo. Gah! My friends ordered the Baklava Cheesecake which was really good although it was served cold so it was hard to cut through the Baklava. We noticed that there was an outdoor patio. Overall I would give them 2.5 forks out of 5.

My Greek Uncle Nick
So tonight after getting my nails and toes done (yes i still go during winter) i decided to check out Uncle Nicks Greek restaurant. This is the closest to a Greek taverna in the NYC that I could find so far outside of Opa Opa in queens. Its located on 29th and 8th close to Chelsea. Sadly tonight there was but one waiter, however he did his best as was very friendly and still managed to get all the orders to the right tables and keep a smile. The inside is done in a orange brown with blue trim, stylized like a taverna with glass doors that open to the street. The decor was very cozy and it seemed like they had family photos made into poster on the wall along with various awards they have won over the years. Thankfully they were closed as it ridiculously cold lol. I started with the taziki and bread, and I usually complain there isn't enough garlic Uncle Nicks however must have read my mind. There was that kick the denotes copious amounts of garlic (sorry to the train riders). For the main course i ordered the chicken skewers with vegetables and the chicken was juicy and tender. The vegetables were actually grilled and delicious. At one point someone dropped a glass, well of course the staff yelled OPA! I ordered the creme custard as they were out of baklava (it must be good) and i have to say not so good. It was fairly bland with no real flavor to it. Overall a good place for authentic Greek food and reasonable prices. However if they are out of Baklava go for the house specialty of rice pudding or nothing. They did comp my desert as I guess for the lack of staff. :)
I would give them 3 forks out of 5
