The war on fashion

So while trolling my news feed I came across an article about fashion photographer David Jay who recently photographed war vets.  This hits close to home for me as many of my friends are in the military and I have seen the effects of deployments on them and their families.  The men and women featured are those who were seriously injured in the line of duty so some of the photos are hard to look at.  David Jay says that he hopes this inspires people to act with love and compassion and to realize that we control our fates.  I agree, its time that we pressure our government to pull our troops out of the middle east.  This is a war based on economics not human rights.  I know that this wont get tons of likes in popular media, but maybe if I can get a few people to read this and understand what war does to people maybe enough people will want that change.  To often I see these vets panhandling because the VA wont provide support and they are turned out.  So stop and help them or go to woundedwarriorproject.com to make a difference in someones life.  War comes with to high of a cost.  What if it was one of your family members, friends, or spouse?

3-D shoes?

So if you follow technology you know that they can make 3-d items such as guns, hammers, and now shoes.  These shoes are a bit different in that they have a holster for your iphone. Wicked! they were shown at Milan fashion week.  Check out the link for more photos.

Real Street Fashion

So since I have started blogging and following various "fashionistas"and "street style" I have noticed that I feel I have unrealistic expectations of what my everyday fashion should be. Now I’m not knocking these lovely ladies, as lord knows that they are my inspiration to get up every day and put my best face/foot forward, but sometimes I’m like everyday people don’t dress like this. I commute everyday for work, and I'll be dammed if I’m wearing heels to walk to and from the train to work. Like most women I wear sneakers and change at work. I often look at these pictures and wish that I was smaller, or taller, or had a better job to afford name brands. I wish that I could be that woman in heels standing at the trainstation or walking down the cobble stone streets on Soho. But I’m not, I’m an everyday girl who wears sneakers to work, dresses in a mix of name brands and sample sale items, who works a 9 to 5. So what does that mean? It means that I take what I see from these other bloggers and try to interpret it for me. I know that some trends don’t work for my body (i.e. peplum ::shivers:: I am a 40DDD, doesn’t look good on me) but I try to show what an everyday working girl interprets as fashion. I hope that you like what I post and you too take some inspiration from what I write about. Like most women I have a complicated relationship with my body image, but I am at a place where I feel good about how I look overall and I know that for being 32 I am pretty damn sexy. As women we are given unrealistic expectations about what beauty should be from mainstream media and allow it to shape how we see ourselves. So ladies I ask that you step back take a deep breath and focus on what you find sexy, be it your dimples when you smile, your shoulders, or the crease in your elbow. But take a moment and realize that you are sexy and no one else should ever define that for you.

Enough of my soap box, but here are some things that inspire me to look good everyday and make the effort. So follow and read fashion posts, blogs, videos and tell me how you interpret it for you.  And thanks to google  and fashionclimaxx for providing me with pictures :)  Like I said these pics inspire me to be better dressed everyday, so thanks to all the fashion bloggers.

4 Floors of Vintage

Sadly the flea market was pretty much a bust however across the street to our surprise was an indoor antiques mall!  So lucky for us it was indoors and we could thaw from being outside.  They had a bit of everything from costume jewelry, housewares, paintings, vases to vintage lingerie.

Trending Ideas

In an effort to revitalize my wardrobe and support the economy I came across style.com trend alert for spring.  Images are from the site but I plan on using the ideas to "reinvent"myself and my wardrobe.  I feel that spring allows us to start over after the bulky drudgery of winter.  Its so hard to be fashionable and warm if you are located anywhere outside the southern hemisphere lol.  So here are some ideas to breath new life into your work wardrobe.  While I'm sure that some of these ideas may be a bit far fetched for boardrooms and staff meetings, use them as inspiration.  Personally I am ALLLLL about the suit on the right.  My color palette this year is black and white with the occasional pops of color.
