Friday Night at West Elm

So last Friday I was lucky enough to be invited to have a pop up at West elm in Dumbo.  Overall I had a great time and met some great new people, like Erika from http://stylingbyerikab.com who brought some peeps.  Everyone loved the jewelry and mocktinis.  Check out the photos and Erikas page for her rocking that C+I!  Want to host your own event?  Email me at jessicabeam719@gmail.com to get started!

Be creative. Be you.

The little things

So on Saturday the BF and I decided to walk around Brooklyn.  We started at the Fort Greene park, ended up along Fulton and finally ended up here at Pequena. Its located on Vanderbilt and Lafayette in Brooklyn.  Its cash only so make sure to stop at an ATM first.  So its about the size of a standard NYC apartment but decorated with mobiles depicting the Dia de los Muertos figurines and other oddities.  The menu is straight forward and you can order the main courses as side dishes.  We started with the chips and salsa, which what chips covered in a chili powder and fresh tomatoes as the salsa.  I ordered the pulled pork tostada, which is a fried corn tortilla piled with toppings.  The BF ordered the veggie quesadilla, which was made with Oaxaca cheese.  We ordered them as mains so they came with beans and rice.  The pulled pork was well seasoned and juicy.  The quesadilla had summer/fall vegetables layered between two crispy corn tortillas.  The service was ok, but the food was better.  Overall 4 out of 5 forks just for the taste.

Seafood in Sheepshead Bay

So last night on the advice of another friend I went to go check out Randazzos Clam Bar in brooklyn.  Let me just say that this is a small space and if you have a party of 3 or more you will have to wait for a seat not to mention parking sucks.  But finally after about a 15 minute wait we got our table.  The menu covers all the bases and offers stuff for landlubbers.  I ordered the fried zucchini, steamed mussels in sauce, and the broiled swordfish.  My BF ordered the little necks on the half shell and says they were great.  Another friend ordered the lobster bisque and I agree with her that it was a bit on the bland side.  All the seafood was fresh and done simply with minimal fluff.  However the broiled swordfish came in about a stick of butter (Paula Deen would be in heaven), but the sauce was great on the bread that was served.  The ambiance is family buffet style and clearly is everyone kinda knows everyone.  Overall I'd give it 3 out of 5 forks.

Phillip Lim and target

So I went into target yesterday and took a peek at the Phillip Lim collection, ad I have to say not really impressed. The only thing that caught me eye was the leopard print.  However neither the top or skirt would have draped really well.  I say go check it out and let me know what you think.

Fashion that Fights

I am alllllll about fashion for a cause, and have I found one.  While trolling IG this morning I came across a post by nuralailalov rocking a shirt that says "respect the hijab" made by  return of the strangers.  Naturally my curiosity was piqued so I trolled over.  Well the whole premise of the company idea stems from the Revolutions in the Middle East. They want to convey the message of freedom, Islam, and human rights through their designs.  BRAVO!!!  Let us move away from social media of who wore what, who is sleeping with who, and who had the most weight gain.  While I don't own a TV I am aware of the struggle of the Syrian people and the atrocities that are being committed.  Here is a company that is hoping to make a difference and raise awareness for the plight of the people in Syria, and a portion of the sales go to the relief effort.  All people regardless of race, creed, size, age or anything should have what we as Americans refer to basic rights.  So click the link below and help raise money for a great cause, plus you'll be fashion forward.

Fall 50 for under $50

Thanks to yahoo! news and Pop Sugar they put together a list of falls top 50 items for $50 or under.  Which is great for me who is currently unemployed but looking to revamp my wardrobe.  Of course number 1 is the LBD which Zara has done for this fall.   It also seems like kitten heels are making their comeback this fall.  These are great wardrobe items and serve a great purpose for interviews.  And lets not forget statement necklaces (which of course I sell at my boutique) which can wake up any outfit no matter how mundane.  So click the link to see the slide show that popsugar put together.  Also dont forget to check out my e-boutique and I was featured again on dearandi.com again! Man i <3 her="" lol="">

Dear Andi

So recently I met up with a friend that I made at a poshmark event awhile back who happens to be a stylist/blogger named Liz.  (click here for her blog)  who has decided to so graciously help promote my jewelry.  Not only does she love it, but has gotten lots of compliments as well (its great jewelry so that makes sense).  She used some of it to shoot a fall lookbook for an up and coming denim line, wore it to a friends wedding, and might be rocking some pieces at NYFW!!!!  Plus she agreed to host a pop up after the craziness of NYFW.  I snagged some photos of her from her blog but please click over and check her out, she has a great style and design aesthetic.  Follow her on IG and poshmark as dearandi

Peeling away the hunger

So yesterday the BF and I were in the LES and of course we were hungry (like what's new right?). Right there on the corner of Bowery and 2nd ave is a quaint eatery called Peels. It's described as classic American food.  Unlike most places this actually had a second floor on which we took our repast. (Sorry I've been reading vampire novels again). The interior is early American decor, traditional pressed tin roof, unfinished wood tables and benches, slate blue gray ways with white trim. I order the flapjacks with fresh fruit and the BF ordered the build-a-biscuit.  We got coffee which was tasty and not harsh. The flapjacks were huge taking ip the entire plate, and light brown.  The biscuit was crumby and his eggs looks cooked to perfection. The service left a bit to be desired but hey such is life. Sadly I was so hungry I forgot to take photos o the food. A cute spot 3.5 out of 5 forks
