Sunday brunch in Brooklyn

So today some friends and I went to have lunch in downtown Brooklyn at this spot called Cafe Lafayette, a french bistro.  Its located on the corner of Portland and Fulton and pretty nondescript. If you go look for the headless cock (seriously there is a headless rooster outside).  The interior is small and intimate, holds at most 15 people.  The menu is fairly straight forward, I ordered the french toast with eggs, there was an order of burgers, steak and croquet monsieur.  Everyone said the food was good and the french toast was light and fluffy served with a side of raspberry syrup. The coffee was fairly on point as well, nice a strong the way I like it.  The service was good as well as the waitress engaged in a conversation with us.  The french toast was $10 and the burgers about $12 so decently priced and decent serving sizes.  Overall I would give four out of five forks.  Here is the link as well.

Boqueira in Soho

So last night I meet up with a friend and we stopped to get tapas at Boqueria on 171 Spring St. The nice thing about this place is the food is great. They focus on seasons so the menu varies based on the season. If you do go try the papas bravas and the tortilla de chocolate and you won't be disappointed.

The French and cleaning

So thanks to dailycandy.com I just discovered this site called French Garment Cleaners Co. Now the email that I got mentioned bag but lo and behold they also sell clothing. I came across this black and white dress in a floral print and a perforated leather bag (these will be great together or with other pieces). I’ll admit the prices are more than what my meager wages can afford, but def some inspirational pieces and possibly good investment pieces as well.

Real Street Fashion

So since I have started blogging and following various "fashionistas"and "street style" I have noticed that I feel I have unrealistic expectations of what my everyday fashion should be. Now I’m not knocking these lovely ladies, as lord knows that they are my inspiration to get up every day and put my best face/foot forward, but sometimes I’m like everyday people don’t dress like this. I commute everyday for work, and I'll be dammed if I’m wearing heels to walk to and from the train to work. Like most women I wear sneakers and change at work. I often look at these pictures and wish that I was smaller, or taller, or had a better job to afford name brands. I wish that I could be that woman in heels standing at the trainstation or walking down the cobble stone streets on Soho. But I’m not, I’m an everyday girl who wears sneakers to work, dresses in a mix of name brands and sample sale items, who works a 9 to 5. So what does that mean? It means that I take what I see from these other bloggers and try to interpret it for me. I know that some trends don’t work for my body (i.e. peplum ::shivers:: I am a 40DDD, doesn’t look good on me) but I try to show what an everyday working girl interprets as fashion. I hope that you like what I post and you too take some inspiration from what I write about. Like most women I have a complicated relationship with my body image, but I am at a place where I feel good about how I look overall and I know that for being 32 I am pretty damn sexy. As women we are given unrealistic expectations about what beauty should be from mainstream media and allow it to shape how we see ourselves. So ladies I ask that you step back take a deep breath and focus on what you find sexy, be it your dimples when you smile, your shoulders, or the crease in your elbow. But take a moment and realize that you are sexy and no one else should ever define that for you.

Enough of my soap box, but here are some things that inspire me to look good everyday and make the effort. So follow and read fashion posts, blogs, videos and tell me how you interpret it for you.  And thanks to google  and fashionclimaxx for providing me with pictures :)  Like I said these pics inspire me to be better dressed everyday, so thanks to all the fashion bloggers.

A Storm of Thoughts

So I wanted to take a moment and vent a bit here.  I am at a point in my life that I am not happy with where I am and want to make a change.  However the change would be major and require a huge sacrifice from myself, and I think that in the end it will be what I needed.  However I think that I am stuck in my rut of comfortablity and am afraid to make the changes needed.  I am trying to play by "rules" that others tell me I should abide by but I am so burnt out that I dont have the energy to engage in the game.  I have lost my raison d'etre and want to find it desperatly.  I dont want to be a zobmie just shuffeling around day to day.  If you ask what I do what I feel so lost I cant give a straight answer.  I am hoping that I find the light before I make such a momumental change in my life, but I think that it not the plan lol.  I do have faith that everything will work itself out as it should.  Thanks for listening guys!
